The Only mixed one disc on Ministry of Sound's Electro House Sessions 3 album, and they've put together a track by track exclusively for novanation!
1. T-Rek – Out My Bitch
This cock rock of electro monster is the perfect opening track for the mix and sets the exact vibe we wanted. This track came along late in the piece and up until that point we had virtually the whole mix nailed aside from the beginning. Out My Bitch solved that problem.
2. The Only - Dancin
Dedicated to the stripper we met in Vegas, this was our first single. It's awesome because we are. It's about one thing and one thing only.
3. Boris Dlugosch – Bangkok
If you banged your dick against a subwoofer for 6 minutes, this is what you would end up with. It’s so unique in its production and sounds and has to have the best artwork ever - a kid and a wax statue of Nicholas Cage.
4. The Aston Shuffle – I Wanna See You (Malente Remix)
This track works as the ultimate DJ tool in the mix. The vocals work perfectly over the groove of Bangkok before it mixes in and then during the mix out we combine the lyrics of this with the lyrics of Better Run to create the line “I Wanna See You… Burn” which loops though the mix.
5. Tocadisco & Nadia Ali - Better Run (Afrojack Remix)
Afrojack is everywhere at the moment. So much so you’d almost think he was contagious! Not everything he does is sick, but when he nails it the results are something to be talked about! This is a great record for the mix because it brings his trademark sound and style, but delivers on the musical side of things as well thanks to beautiful vocals and chords that feature in the breakdown.
6. Will Bailey - Hit the Club (Sidney Samson Remix)
Will Bailey and Sidney Samson together can mean only one thing – peak time noise that destroys brain cells. This track brings the dutch electro vibe and we respect that.
7. Franky Miller – Jumpin’
Cool groove based record that works to bridge two different vibes in the CD. It flows from the Will Bailey record nicely as the vocals interplay with each other but then sets the right tone for the Bag Raiders record that follows.
8. Bag Raiders feat. Donnis - All The Girls
This is from A-Trak’s Fools Gold label which we are big fans of. That and the Aussie connection made this a no brain inclusion.
9. Simian Mobile Disco - Cruel Intentions (Space Cave 12” Mix)
The CD is packed with slammin club smashing records and to us this record is the moment of contrast in the CD. It has an incredible vocals from Beth Dido and we love the breathing space it brings to the mix.
10. Maral Salmassi & Fukkk Offf - Let's Rock The Party (Fukkk Offf Remix)
This track is both rockin and grooving. It's got more juice than that the 2 Pac movie that Riverside sampled. The inclusion of this track caused more than a few arguments in the studio about where to use it and how it should be presented. Listening back the right decision was made.
11. Steve Aoki feat. [[[zuper blahq]]] – I’m In House (Gigi Borocco Remix)
We are fans of Gigi. He is remixing of our next single. We are also fans of Steve’s record label Dim Mak. Put the two together and you get electro magic.
12. A1 Bassline feat. Dean Tynan – We Love Pussy
Bassline from hell on this club banger. Not surprises there given the artist name really. Simple and effective stuff from a dude who’s dad is apparently a famous soccer hooligan. Dance Music Trivia Point #1.
13. The Only - The Only F*cking Rave Party (Original Demo)
The label asked for a new single from us for this CD and they were vibing on another track we had done. We weren’t feeling that other track and thought f*ck that so we made this new single in 1 night just before we had to mix the CD. We knew this had to be something special and we had to put our money where our mouths were. The result is a song about our shows that is currently the biggest track in our sets.
14. Fake Blood – The Dozens
Its Fake Blood. Everything he does is dope.
15. Don Diablo & Example - Hooligans (Extended Mix)
We can relate this record… its loud, obnoxious and a little out of control.
16. The Bloody Beetroots feat. Lisa Kekaula - Talkin In My Sleep
We played a show with The Bloody Beetroots late last year and after partying with Bob and Tommy there was always going to be a Beetroots record included on this mix. Rifo is a bit of a genius – he can be hectic and melodic at the same time, something we love about his music.
17. Sub Focus – Could This Be Real
The amazing vocals combined with the insane bassline make this track like the bastard child of Mr Happy and Mr Angry if two Mr Men could conceive. It’s like nothing else that’s out there at the moment. The label had to fight to get this for us and we held off finalising the mix until the 11th hour and then at the last second it came through so we got it onto the mix.
18. Crookers Feat. Miike Snow - Remedy (Magik Johnson Vocal Mix)
This was one of the hardest records to make work in the mix. It wasn’t until the Sub Focus record came through that we were really able to make sense of this track in the mix and present it the way we wanted. And now the mix into this is one of the hottest on the disc.
19. Cassius - Youth, Speed, Trouble, Cigarettes (Reset Remix)
Reset are fantastic – we luv their stuff – so combing them and a song about Cigarettes… it was always going to make the cut.
20. Kid Cudi, MGMT, Ratatat - Pursuit Of Happiness (Steve Aoki Radio Edit)
Cudi is the real deal and released on the best hip hop albums of 2009. When you take that and Aoki got his electro trance vibe on with the remix, it’s a big moment for end of the disc.
21. Editors – Papillion (Tiesto Remix Radio Edit)
Judging this one on the sound not the scene… whoever produces Tiesto’s remixes for him did a fantastic job with this. They have kept the vibe of the original vocally and delivered a slamming groove with a bassline more like an indie remix.
22. Fenech Soler – Lies (Alex Metric Remix)
This is a great indie pop record and Alex has the golden touch on the remix front.
23. Vitalic – Poison Lips
We love Vitalic. If there's a producer who knows how to rock and keep a unique sound that nobody else has, it's gotta be Vitalic. Couldn’t think of a better way to close the mix that with this amazing piece of music.
