Welcome to My Life of Sin – my take on club nights, DJ events, festivals and d floor action around Briz and the Gold Coast. This time I hit the M1 for MYNC’s Aussie tour feat front man, Mark Brown.

I’m not sure if cranking John Digweed on the journey down from Briz to the Goldie was such a good idea given the deep, progressive tech house mood I was now in. Turning the ignition off was a definite challenge, cos right now… my Mazda Maxx Sport with its low roof and kick a** sound system was the best club in town.  But MYNC’s Mark Brown was on the bill at Platinum in Broadbeach, and I had to make the crossover to mainstream house before I walked in or I’d bring the wrong mood to a gig that deserved the right attitude. After all this is the man responsible for launching Dirty Vegas, Eric Prydz, Steve Angello and Fedde Le Grand.

Sorry John Digweed, time to get over myself, but we’ll reconvene later, I promise.

11.10pm, I descended into Platinum which was already pumping due to resident Craig Robert’s talent for raising the collective BPM of any room.

11.30, and it was Mark Brown’s turn to radiate some big, upfront house through the Platinum speakers. From the get go, it was hands in the air, smiles all round and everyone on the d floor was feeling it, me included.

Platinum also has a low roof and a kick a** sound system, (right up there with my Mazda), so if you’re into the fidelity of the sound, as well as a quality dj line-up, this is a clubber’s club, possibly the best in Queensland.

So, combine Platinum, the Platinum party crowd, and Mark’s ninja moves on the decks, and you’ve got a pretty amazing club night. He moves round the dj booth like he’s had 14 Red Bulls, layering bangin beats and big upfront house inexhaustibly throughout his set.

Mark had me with my favourite riff of all time… Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” - MYNC and Rhythm Masters remake, Kurd Maverick – “Don’t Make Me Wait”, brand new track - fresh out of the studio this week - MYNC & ERICK MORILLO (so new, no-one’s come up with a title yet), MYNC & Christian Luke “London v Melbourne”, Dan Castro “The Cove”, and big room faves “Silver Screen”, “Right on Time”, even a bit of Adrian Lux – “Teenage Crime". If anyone knows how to mix it up, masterfully, it’s Mark Brown.

So I was curious to know… after playing Space, Pacha Ibiza, Gatecrasher, and naming Creamfields 04 as a career stand out with over 30 000 off-the-hook clubbers ‘losing it’ over massive dance floor anthem “Woz Not Woz”, how does playing small rooms in Oz really rate?

“I love venues like Platinum, The Cage, and Chinese Laundry cos I get to play exactly what I wanna play. People go there for the music and for me that’s what it’s all about. The challenge as a DJ is to break as much new music into clubs, and educate the crowd.”

And what new music is getting Mark Brown’s attention at the moment?
“I’m really loving the new Tron sound track by Daft Punk”.
(Yeh me too Mark –we can be friends.)

As for my promise to John Digweed? Sorry John, I’m in the party zone now so I’ll be sticking with Mark Brown for the journey back to Briz. …Tomorrow in recovery though, you'll definitely be bringing it!
Yeh I'm fickle. I flirt with all genres, as long as it’s quality, and Mark’s sets are platinum all the way.

Tour dates for MYNC’s Mark Brown:
Jan 22 Platinum Nightclub Gold Coast
Jan 29 Chinese Laundry Sydney
Feb 5  Goulburn Workers Club Sydney
Feb 12 Lot 33 Canberra
Feb 19 Platinum Nightclub Gold Coast

Can’t wait to see where My Life of Sin leads me next.
(Any suggestions?)

I've heard a lot of good things about platinum on the coast. Bout time I made the trip to hear for myself (the dj lineup always looks good)
