N*E*R*D's Pharrell Williams has revealed his band's new album is dedicated to escapism.
The frontman made the revelation during a recent interview with The Boombox when describing why he named the album Nothing.
"At the end of the day, how did the world come about?" Williams asked. "They said it started with the Big Bang, but what was before the Big Bang? What comes before all great ideas? Before you're inspired... Nothing!"
Williams went on to explain the band's approach to Nothing, "There are issues and people want to talk about them, but we don't want to bring people down.
"We want to bring people up, make people happy, we're tired of people thinking so much... We need some kind of escapism and that's what the Nothing album is about."
Nothing is due to be released in September.
N*E*R*D will tour Australia this New Year performing at Summadayze, Summafieldazye and Pyramid Rock Festival.
