The ARIA awards are only one week away! So we're giving a rundown of the Best Dance Release nominees, who could take the grand prize and why.
This is a tough year for the Best Dance Release ARIA Award. Previous winners Sneaky Sound System and The Presets face off with previous nominee Hook N Sling, first time nominee Tommy Trash and newcomer Zoe Badwi.
So who is going to win the award? And what do you think?
Sneaky Sound System - 2
Sneaky Sound System should sit pretty comfortably in this catagory having already won it two years ago following the release of their massive hits "I Love It", "Pictures" and "UFO". While their follow-up album 2 didn't quite ride the same tsunami of success, it produced some pretty slick pop/dance songs like "It's Not My Problem" and "Don't Get You". "16" is another fine example of why they are nominated this year.
Hook N Sling - The Best Thing
Hook N Sling might come across as an underdog of this particular award, up against huge acts The Presets and Sneaky Sound System. However, Hook N Sling has already been nominated for this award back in 2007 for his Kid Kenobi collaboration "The Sling". With a scorcher of a club track in "The Best Thing", 2009 could be the year Hook N Sling claim the big prize.
Tommy Trash ft. Mr Wilson - Need Me To Stay
If Tommy Trash doesn't take home the Best Dance Release ARIA, he should at minimum receive some sort of accolade for Best Video! I don't even think Kanye West would interrupt that ceremony! The clip, which is probably best described as electro-porn- is the perfect visual to back up the hot dance track. He may have only been around for a few years but it looks like Tommy Trash may just be a name we'll hear a lot in this catagory in the future.
The Presets - Talk Like That
A song that really needs no introduction to the dance community, "Talk Like That" totally dominated radio in 2008, went gold on the charts and came in at no.6 on JJJ's Hottest 100 of 2008. The uncomplicated yet effective three-chord chorus, with even simpler lyrics, “Talk talk talk talk talk, like like like like like that that that that that,” is unforgivably addictive. Since The Presets won this award last year (amongst many others), the lads may want to dust off last year's acceptance speech.
Zoe Badwi - Release Me
Don't be fooled by her gorgeous looks, Zoe Badwi is not to be messed with. An ARIA award nomination is a big deal for any Australian artist but consider it's your first ever single release - That's a pretty special feeling. Working like a sweatshop seamstress, Badwi thoroughly deserves the nomination. She collaborated with TV Rock, the legends behind arguably Australia's biggest ever dance single "Flaunt It" and it looks like she'll be attending many an ARIA in the future.
