My Life of Sin took me to Barsoma on Saturday. No motive required, Ulterior: Three Phase blasted the guts out of Constance Street The Valley for a day and night of unadulterated electronic, house and techno.

First, let me credit Brisbane’s finest:
Cosmo Cater, Scott Walker, Dingostyle, Rich Curtis, Fuzion, CJM, James Hunter, Ben Smith, Dylan K, Christopher Brooks.
Remember the names – they’re making sweet noise both here and o/s.

Ok so Phase 1 started at 1.00pm in the courtyard, and Charlie May (UK) live delivered understated electronic goodness to a charged up crowd of die-hards. This is Sasha’s ex production buddy no less, and he dropped his own productions, edits and remixes that powered the afternoon nicely. All of this at sunset on a Saturday just busts the myth that Brisbane’s a ‘sleepy little town’; you just need to know where the party’s at.

Phase 2 featured Kasey Taylor on the Strictly Vinyl decks inside. The Wax Affair brought all the things Ulterior stands for in underground House and Techno music. It was awesome to hear old skool records spinning a wickedly progressive spell over the crowd, and no (utterly ridiculous) 3.00am lock out rule was ever gonna break it. Greg Prestwidge and Steve Woolley aka Dingostyle made sure of that with vinyl delicacies like Bryan Zentz “D-Clash”, Timo Maas “Der Scheiber” and Adam Beyer “Stereotypes”.

Outside, Phase 3 featured The Producers – James Hunter, CJM, Rich Curtis, PQM and Christopher Brooks. Massive tunes, slightly diminished by a sound system that refused to punch out big bottom end, but that aside, it was underground at its absolute banging best, and the crowd ate it up.

Gorging ourselves on quality beats is a pastime Brisbane’s underground club scene relishes, and its cool to see familiar faces at every event.

Big thanks to Ritual Events and Barsoma. With more of these sorts of parties on the menu, Brisbane’s cravings for delicious beats are sure to be satisfied. I’m already peckish for the next one. I’ll keep you posted.
